Tweed 'moved' by tributes to Goody
25 January 2009
Tweed said he was "moved beyond words" by the public's response to the 27-year-old reality television star's death on Sunday following her a battle with cancer.
Tweed, who married Goody last month, will be sentenced on Thursday for assaulting a taxi driver and may be forced to miss her funeral on April 4 if he is jailed.
He is on licence after being released from prison earlier this year after being convicted of assaulting a 16-year-old boy.
Tweed, 21, said: "I am determined to make her proud - and I will."
He said he was "moved beyond words" by the public outpouring of grief which Goody's death had provoked. Flowers, soft toys, balloons and tributes have been placed outside her home in Upshire, Essex.
"I can't thank everyone enough for the unbelievable support and goodwill the family has received. The flowers and the kindness shown by ordinary people have moved me beyond words," he said. "Jade would have really appreciated everything that has been done."
Among those who have paid public tributes to Goody was Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty who said her heart sank when she heard her fellow Big Brother housemate had died.
Goody was accused of bullying and racism towards Shetty, 33, during their time on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007 but the pair were reconciled when they met again in Mumbai on the Indian version of the show last summer. It was during her appearance that Goody received news that she was suffering from cervical cancer.
Goody's funeral will be held on April 4 at St John's Baptist Church, in Buckhurst Hill, Essex.
