Two held as children found dead
05 January 2007
Officers found the bodies of the children after they were called to an incident in a street in the Thornton Heath area of south London by a member of the public at 9.30am on Saturday.
They arrested a man, thought to be aged in his 60s, and a woman in her 20s, and took a young girl to a south London hospital where she is continuing to receive treatment.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said that "as a result of immediate inquiries", officers went straight to a nearby address and found the two dead children.
The spokeswoman said: "At 9.30am ... police responded to a call from a member of the public in relation to an incident in the street in the Thornton Heath area concerning two adults and a young child.
"On arrival, police arrested a man, believed to be in his 60s, and a woman, in her 20s, and a young girl was taken into their care. The child was taken to a south London hospital where she is receiving treatment.
"As a result of immediate inquiries, police attended an address nearby. At the address the bodies of two young children, both under six, were discovered.
"Homicide and Serious Crime Command is currently investigating.
