Police found the bodies of two young children before arresting a man and a woman and taking a third child to hospital for treatment.

Officers found the bodies of the children after they were called to an incident in a street in the Thornton Heath area of south London by a member of the public at 9.30am on Saturday.

They arrested a man, thought to be aged in his 60s, and a woman in her 20s, and took a young girl to a south London hospital where she is continuing to receive treatment.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said that "as a result of immediate inquiries", officers went straight to a nearby address and found the two dead children.
