Two men quizzed over stab murder

Two men have been arrested by police investigating the murder of a teenager in a knife attack, the Metropolitan Police said.

An 18-year-old man from Thamesmead and a 21-year-old man from Abbey Wood are being questioned at a south London police station.

Sunday Essiet, 15, was stabbed to death in Plumstead, south-east London, on Tuesday.

Police believe he was with a group of friends in the middle of a grass area on the Glyndon Estate when they were approached by group of black males.

The two groups argued and Sunday, along with several friends, was chased.

The 15-year-old was allegedly caught on the edge of the green by Invermore Place and assaulted.

Detective Superintendent Phil Adams, leading the murder investigation, said: "This incident has taken place in the middle of an estate, with a number of properties overlooking not only the initial incident but the subsequent fatal assault.

"I am pleased to say that we have already had a large number of people from the local community come forward, but we would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information."

Scotland Yard said police were keeping an open mind as to the motive.

Sunday is the fifth teenager to have been killed in London this year, and the fourth in a knife attack.
