The time of death discovered in a post-mortem examination on Sunday was reported in the Italian press.
Meredith Kercher, 21, was found later that day with her throat cut in her bedroom in the central Italian city of Perugia.
Her partially-clothed body was found under a duvet at a house in the Viale Sant'Antonio, not far from the city centre.
Medical examiner Luca Lalli said on Sunday after the six hour-plus post-mortem examination that there was evidence of sexual activity at some point before she died.
However, he did not confirm suggestions that she had been raped.
On Monday, local newspaper La Voce di Perugia said the time of death may have been at around 2am and Miss Kercher may have sustained more than one blow to the neck.
The newspaper speculated that she may have had sexual activity under some kind of threat. It added that various organic materials needed further analysis - they could be sperm, vaginal fluid or saliva.
Miss Kercher, from Coulsdon, south London, is thought to have been stabbed with a pocket knife.
On Monday, forensics officers resumed their search of the isolated house at the top of a steep wooded valley where she was found nearly 72 hours earlier.
