The executive of the Communication Workers` Union will consider a document drawn up after marathon peace talks.

The union's leaders and Royal Mail chief executive Adam Crozier signed a joint statement after an agreement was drawn up late on Friday evening. The union's 130,000 members will vote on the deal if it is accepted by the executive.

Meanwhile, most postal workers are expected to report for duty on Monday after a series of wildcat strikes which led to further disruption to deliveries.

More than 50 delivery offices and mail centres were hit by the unofficial action at one stage last week when fresh rows blew up over changes to shift times.

London and Liverpool were the worst hit areas, although the action also spread to parts of Scotland.

Union leaders in London met to discuss the unofficial action, and there is expected to be a full return to work in the capital on Monday.

Workers in Liverpool could decide to wait until the outcome of the union's executive meeting before deciding whether to end their wildcat strikes.

Workers in Liverpool and London took four days of unofficial action leading to a further backlog of mail deliveries in their areas.

It is understood that that deal thrashed out last week includes a 6.9% pay rise over two years, as well as agreements on flexible working and pensions.
