Wimbledon players' kit is stolen

Police are investigating the theft of a lorry load of sportswear which was en route to players at Wimbledon.

The Adidas kit was stolen from a truck parked overnight in east London 10 days ago, Scotland Yard said.

It is understood that opportunist thieves broke in and took 390 boxes of shirts, shorts and other clothing.

The kit was bound for Adidas-sponsored players to wear during the championships.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "Newham Police are investigating a theft from a lorry which took place in Dock Road, E16, at 4am on June 13. No arrests have been made and inquiries continue."

Wimbledon has so far been largely trouble-free.

Scotland Yard said two men were arrested at the tournament on Monday after being caught with blades, including a lock knife. Both were cautioned and released.

The Yard said two suspected ticket touts were also stopped in the dispersal zone around the venue and ordered to leave.

The temporary zone has been brought back for the second year.

Anyone caught selling tickets faces immediate arrest. Those suspected of ticket touting are being told to leave the zone and will be arrested if they return within 24 hours.
