Woman and passenger killed in crash

A woman driver and her teenage passenger were among three people who died in a seven-vehicle motorway pile-up.

The 36-year-old woman and the 17-year-old boy, a back seat passenger, were killed when their Vauxhall Cavalier left the carriageway and careered down an embankment.

The 52-year-old male driver of a Honda CRV died in hospital after his vehicle overturned during the incident.

No further details of the victims have been released by police.

Six other people needed hospital treatment following the incident near the M18 slip road off the busy M62 near Goole.

Humberside Police said it appeared that all of the vehicles involved were intending to take the slip road when the incident happened just after 6.45pm on Friday.

Humberside Police said the crash involved an articulated lorry, the Vauxhall Cavalier and Honda CRV, a Vauxhall Vectra, Ford Galaxy, Volkswagen Passat and a Mercedes Sprinter panel van.

The multi-vehicle smash happened on a westbound stretch of the motorway between junctions 35 and 36.

The road was closed throughout the night but reopened on Saturday morning.

The injured victims were all taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary where police said they were treated for 'non life threatening injuries'.
