Jessica Davies, 28, allegedly attacked Olivier Mugnier after inviting him back to her flat.

She reportedly put a knife to his throat and after slicing an artery, stabbed him several times.

Reports said Davies turned to drink and drugs after splitting from her French boyfriend.

She is said to have chatted to unemployed Mr Mugnier, 24, on Saturday in bar near her flat then invited him home.

Davies called for an ambulance and Mr Mugnier died at the scene shortly after paramedics arrived.

The Foreign Office said it was aware of the detention of a Jessica Davies but had no further details.

The incident bears similarities to the murder of British student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy, earlier this month.

Three people including American flatmate Amanda Knox are being held in Italy for allegedly cutting the 21-year-old's throat after launching a sexual attack on her.
