Woman remanded over teenager murder

A 22-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of a pregnant teenager.

Harmohinder Kaur Saghera, of Monastery Drive, Solihull, West Midlands, is accused of the murder of 17-year-old Sana Ali at her home in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Saghera was remanded in custody by Bury magistrates.

The defendant, a dentistry student at Birmingham University, nodded to confirm her name and address.

Defending solicitor Tarsen Salhan made an application for bail which was refused.

Mrs Ali was found with serious stab wounds in an upstairs bedroom at her house in Throstle Grove last Friday. She was 10 weeks pregnant at the time.

The court heard she received stab wounds to the heart and abdomen and also suffered lacerations to her wrists and hands. She was taken to Fairfield Hospital where she died.

The case was adjourned until July 13 when a plea and case management hearing will take place at Manchester Crown Court.

Detectives have released Mrs Ali's husband, Sair Ali, 24, on bail pending further inquiries until June 5.

A 16-year-old boy has also been bailed by police until the same date.
