Youth arrested after stabbing death

A youth is under arrest on suspicion of murder after a teenager was stabbed to death, police said.

The victim, believed to be 16, died at a house in Throckley in Newcastle upon Tyne on Tuesday.

Police were called to a house in the Hallow Drive area where the body of the teenager was discovered.

A 16-year-old was arrested on Tuesday and remains in custody, a Northumbria Police spokeswoman said.

"As a result of information received, police attended a house in the Hallow Drive area of Throckley where a teenager was found dead.

"He has not yet been formally identified but he is believed to be around 16 years of age.

"A full murder investigation was launched and detectives work to establish the full circumstances leading up to the teenager's death."

Officers are appealing to witnesses who were in the area to come forward.

The death is the second fatal stabbing of a teenager in Newcastle in the past two weeks.

Mark Smith, 16, of St John's Walk, died in Elswick Road on May 3. A 16-year-old youth has been charged with his murder.
