London 2012 - Day 13 guide

Tickets for the Games go on sale on March 15. Matt Majendie guides you through the 16 days of action and 26 sports - today's focus is on hockey and synchronised swimming...

Thursday August 9

Hockey

Where to watch it: Hockey Centre (Olympic Park).

When to watch it: July 29-August 11.

How the scoring works: matches last 70 minutes and goals can be scored only with shots taken within the opposition 'D'.

How many matches to win a medal: both the men's and the women's teams are separated into preliminary groups of six teams apiece. The top two qualify for the semi-finals.

The star of the sport: Luciana Aymar - the Argentine is a seven-time player of the year and her impressive dribbling skills have seen her branded the Diego Maradona of the hockey world. Her nickname is La Maga, which translates as the magician.

Do the Brits have a medal chance? with the men's and women's teams ranked fourth and fifth in the world, they have real medal hopes.

Did you know? hockey gets its name for the French term for a shepherd's crook, also known as a hocquet.

Ticket prices: £20 to £150

Synchronised swimming

Where to watch it: Aquatics Centre (Olympic Park).

When to watch it: August 5-7 & 9-10.

How the scoring works: there are duet and team events with points allocated for both artistic impression and technical merit.

The star of the sport: Natalia Ishchenko - the Russian won team gold at the 2008 Games and dominated last year's European Championships.

Do the Brits have a medal chance? Jenna Randall regularly finishes in the top 10 of major global competitions but a medal looks likely to be just beyond her reach.

Ticket prices: £20 to £175
