Brewer to resurrect beer of 1908 London Games

A brewery is to recreate an ale that was drunk during the capital's first Olympics in honour of London 2012.
Camden Town Brewery is hoping to "reincarnate" Elephant Pale Ale, which was made and drunk in the capital in 1908, when London last hosted the Olympics, and through to the Twenties when the now defunct Camden Brewery closed.
They have not yet found a recipe but they are searching the London Metropolitan University library's archives in order to find enough information on details such as hop varieties and methods in malt kilning to make it taste like the original.
Only one batch of the ale, which is expected to be red in colour, is to be made and it will be available at the brewery during the Olympics.
Jasper Cuppaidge, director of Camden Town Brewery, said he hoped the ale would be an alternative to "gimmicky" Olympic-themed drinks.
He said: "It's giving people a really great snapshot of what London did as a brewing capital. We're not promoting it as an Olympic beer but more looking to reincarnate what was going on in the city at the time."
