Lord Coe is visiting Africa this week as part of a trip that will take in 10 key international TV markets. Also on his itinerary are New York, the Caribbean, Brazil, China, Australia and Russia's future Winter Olympic host city, Sochi.

He will promote the Games via broadcast companies whose rights' fees bankroll the Olympics. He will also be flying the flag for British business and London as a tourist destination, but on his travels is unlikely to miss the chance to campaign for his cherished role as head of world athletics, the IAAF.

This week his arch-rival, former Ukrainian Olympic pole vaulter Sergei Bubka, kicked off a charm offensive during a visit to London.

Presidency of the IAAF confers automatic membership of the International Olympic Committee which is otherwise out of Lord Coe's reach as the GB quota is full.
