IOC boss backs British bid for Youth Olympics in 2018

The youth Olympics could be staged in the UK as a legacy of hosting the London 2012 Games, it was revealed today.
International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge backed a possible British bid for the Games, launched in 2010 for competitors aged 15 to 18, as a means of boosting sports participation.
His support comes as ministers focus their efforts on creating an Olympic legacy by targeting the drop-off in sports participation by school-leavers. He said: "You have a whole series of events, with the Commonwealth Games, the Rugby World Cup in 2015 and the athletics world championships in London in 2017. We'd welcome a bid for 2018."
Dr Rogge was speaking before today's opening ceremony of the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics at Innsbruck, Austria.
The British Olympic Association has given cities until the end of January to bid for the 2018 summer youth Games. It will decide next month whether to enter one.
