Sixty Six, a true..ish story

Looking for a great comedy? Check out Sixty Six, the latest film from the makers of Bridget Jones's Diary and Notting Hill, at cinemas from November 3

It's the summer of '66 and England is about to be consumed by World Cup Fever. Everyone's pinning their hopes on England making it to the finalthat is, all except for 12-year-old Bernie. He's looking forward to the biggest day of his life – his Bar Mitzvah, the day he becomes a man. Sadly, not everyone is as excited as Bernie; his family are more concerned at the prospect of losing their business, and Bernie's tearaway elder brother Alvie. Worst of all, the World Cup final is scheduled for the same day as Bernie's Bar Mitzvah, and his parents won't hear of moving the date as "England will never get to the final". But as Bernie's worst nightmare comes true, his big day looks set to become a big disaster

Sixty Six is based on the real-life experience of director Paul Weiland, whose very personal story strikes a universal chord. Drawing on Weiland's own childhood has lent the characters a human charm and humour that you couldn't fail to empathise with, while the depiction of a young boy's relationship with his family – and father especially – is as touching as it is funny.

At the heart of the film is a young boy trying to find his voice and his dreams of becoming a man. This incredibly engaging story - excellently scripted and superbly acted - will delight anyone whose ever had to do the difficult job of growing up!

Sixty Six is at cinemas November 3rd.
