If Ramsay agrees to the venture, it will be his 10th restaurant in the capital

Gordon Ramsay is in talks with a leading hotel chain to open a restaurant in a new £150million development at the site of London's only heliport.

The celebrity chef has been asked to create a rooftop restaurant in a planned 70-room riverside hotel at London Heliport in Battersea, which is to be redeveloped into 250 flats, a spa and several business suites.

Today Von Essen Hotels, the company behind the scheme, confirmed they are in talks with an "internationally renowned chef" for the hotel's 14th-floor destination restaurant.

If Ramsay agrees to the venture, it will be his 10th restaurant in the capital.

He already runs Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Royal Hospital Road, which boasts three Michelin stars, PÈtrus at the Berkeley Hotel with two Michelin stars, Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's, and one-star The Savoy Grill.

The Von Essen development will be a joint venture with PremiAir, which manages and operates a fleet of helicopters and private jets, and will be one of the most exclusive venues in the capital.

The proposal for the upgraded heliport will include a reception area, VIP lounge, waiting area and control room.

New research reveals helicopter flights from the centre had increased by almost a fifth in recent years, jumping from 10,834 in 2003 to an estimated 12,800 by the end of last year. Many of the aircraft are used by celebrities and business chiefs.

Von Essen Hotels have 23 country house hotels including Cliveden in Berkshire, The Royal Crescent in Bath and the Chateau de Bagnols, near Lyon.

The development has provoked complaints from residents who claim an increase in the number of aircraft at the site is causing unnecessary noise.
