Critic's choice: where to eat Chinese

Charles Campion
11 Jun 2007

Charles Campion checks out three of the best Chinese restaurants in London

Dragon Castle
114 Walworth Road, SE17
Large and glossy, with slick and friendly service, Dragon Castle puts many Chinatown restaurants to shame with its food. Try the whole crab braised in a pot with beer and noodles. £20pp ex-drinks. (020 7277 3388).

North China
305 Uxbridge Road, W3
A large family-run Chinese restaurant that specialises in Peking Duck as a succession of dishes - start with skin, then meander through from filling pancakes to stir fry and finally soup. £20pp ex-drinks. (020 8992 9183).

Shanghai
41 Kingsland High Street, E8
Only the wall tiles remain from what was once an eelandpie shop. Now it's a decent Chinese restaurant with sound Chinatown standard cooking and very loud karaoke. £20pp ex-drinks. (020 7254 2878).
