Where to eat Middle Eastern food in London

Evening Standard   2 Jul 2009

Here are some of the best Middle Eastern restaurants on Westbourne Grove...

Sadaf
A comfortable Iranian restaurant with engaging staff. Start with a tour of the meze on offer and then pick your way through the stews and cooked dishes.
27 Westbourne Grove, W2 (020 7243 8444)

Alounak
First started in a Portakabin on the fringes of Olympia station, Alounak prospered on the basis of good, traditional Iranian food. Then it moved to a proper restaurant space in Russell Gardens before opening this second branch. The food is still honest, and the bread particularly fine.
44 Westbourne Grove, W2 (020 7229 4158)

Al Waha
If you only visit one restaurant on Westbourne Grove, it should be Al Waha. Peerless Lebanese food, all the classic meze dishes plus a delightful array of home-style specials, from the ultra-fresh salad baskets to the surprisingly sophisticated wine list.
75 Westbourne Grove, W2 (020 7229 0806, www.alwaharestaurant.com)

Hafez
Actually on Hereford Road rather than Westbourne Grove, this long-established Iranian restaurant continues to pull in an appreciative expat clientele.
5 Hereford Road, W2 (020 7221 3167)

Fresco
Fresco leads with a decent range of fresh squeezed juices. The meze offerings cover all the bases and the vegetarian options are particularly well done.
25 Westbourne Grove, W2 (020 7221 2355 www.frescojuices.co.uk)
