The Grill at the Dorchester

The décor in the Grill Room makes a bold statement. On the walls tartan-clad gods disport themselves looking down at diners who are concentrating on classic cooking. That means roast Angus beef carved at table, Yorkshire puddings, real gravy — in short, everything needed to gladden a beefeater's heart. Sunday lunch, three courses, £35.

Corrigan's Mayfair

Ebullient chef Richard Corrigan specialises in doing simple things well. His roast beef on Sunday is no exception — a comfortable dining room, well-matured and well-cooked meat and friendly service. Best to book. The regular three-course Sunday lunch is £27 rising to £37 if you opt for the beef.

Wild Honey

Sister to Arbutus in Soho. The à la carte menu at Wild Honey offers a stunning grilled rib of beef, aged for 28 days with pommes Anna and béarnaise sauce. It serves two people at £23.50 per person. Also open for Sunday lunch.

The Albemarle

Lee Streeton is head chef here and he knows his beef. Every Sunday the trolley features a traditional roast rib of  painstakingly aged Hereford beef with seasonal vegetables and all the classic trimmings. Two courses £25, three £30.

Comida

This place is something of a wild card but one that will find favour with the committed carnivore. Roving carvers provide an unlimited supply of freshly cooked meat at your table. There are three kinds of beef — Picanya (top rump), Alcatra (sirloin) and Maminha (contre-fillet) — and for a fixed price you get to
eat until you drop. Lunch £16.90, dinner £21.50.
