Battery Restaurant, 34 Westferry Circus, E14 (020 8305 3089 www.battery.uk.com)
The Battery is the new incarnation of the site that was formerly Nobu - great views and slick décor remain. On Mothers' Day there is a special three course menu for £27.50 so mum can tuck into smoked salmon, roast beef and Tonka bean pannacotta. The voyage to Canary Wharf at the weekend is made a little easier by complimentary parking.

Tom's Kitchen, 27 Cale Street, SW3 (020 7349 0202 www.tomskitchen.co.uk)
Chelsea mums get plenty of choice and Tom's Kitchen covers all the bases from Caesar salad; sausage and mash; to roast chicken or fish pie. The chocolate hot pot with peanut butter ice cream will add a suitable grace note, if nostalgia doesn't demand that mum tries the Baked Alaska.

Bentley's Restaurant, 11-15 Swallow Street, W1 (020 7734 4756 www.bentleys.org)
At Bentley's Mothers' Day means a gently paced brunch between 11am and 4pm. As well as classic brunch fare like eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, there are more serious dishes like the “Old fashioned English duck with a rich apple sauce”. Mum gets a glass of champagne and the menu is priced at £34.50.

St Pancras Grand, Upper Concourse London St Pancras International, NW1 (020 7870 9900 www.stpancrasgrand.com)
On Mothers' Day St Pancras Grand is holding a Jazz brunch – Chef Chris Dines is putting together a three courses menu served with a glass of pink fizz. It costs £30 a head.

Le Cafe Anglais, 8 Porchester Gardens, W2 (020 7221 1415 www.lecafeanglais.co.uk)
At Rowley Leigh's light and airy restaurant the three course Mothers' Day lunch is £32.50 and features the kind of delicious, honest food that will appeal to mums everywhere. Chicken liver parfait; roast rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding; lead inexorably to chocolate mousse cake.
