Sci-Fi set: Inamo's table-top technology allows those bored with their dinner dates to quickly hail a cab

Look here too

Walking into inamo is like stepping into a Japanese sci-fi movie. Overhead are space-age projectors that turn your table into a sexy kind of iPhone. The tablecloth becomes a touchsensitive screen. You can scan a menu, or hail a cab, at the click of a button. You can even change the look of your tablecloth (clouds, bamboo, etc) - a bit like superior PC wallpaper. The technology is easy to use, but there are plenty of human waiters too.

The inspiration for inamo was born from its young owners' frustrations at failing to get a waiter's attention. The pan-asian food is top quality. Head chef antony Sousa Tam has worked in london's premier asian spots, nobu and Hakkasan. we were wowed by a £7.95 truffle marble beef starter, delicate slices of meat served with an addictive truffle vinaigrette. and we got another fix of that on our £15.50 rib-eye, a real lads' favourite, that arrived on a sizzling hot stone accompanied by sweet potato puree. You can pick "small" or "large" plates in any order. after our gorgeously sticky £11.95 black cod marinated in spicy miso, i fed my sweet tooth with a £5 vanilla crème brulée with strawberry and lemongrass coulis.

My date went back to starters for a £7 sushi three-way. we both finished with a meltingly soft £14.95 wagyu onglet, slowcooked beef served with soy braised yam bean. Exciting, great food and with plenty of fun stuff, it's ideal for a date. not only can you play games on your table, if the date goes really badly (or well) then your cab can be there in seconds.
