LOOKING AFTER YOUR FEET

As our feet work hard for us, they deserve to be cared for...

Make sure your running shoes fit as the size of your feet can change – as you age and put more weight on them, feet can spread. So if you are still buying the same size as you've always worn, get a proper fitting.
"Don't wear the same shoes everyday. Alternate your trainers if you run a lot, so that they are aired to prevent bacteria building up," says podiatrist, Margaret Dabbs.
Discard running shoes after completing around 200-400 miles. Opt for a brand such as New Balance which comes in narrow, medium and wide fittings. "Trainers should have good arch support, especially, if your foot tends to role in as this will prevent blistering," says Margaret. There should be a thumb-width of length between the end of the shoe and the longest toe. She advises going to a specialist sports shop to get them fitted properly.
Wear running socks as they help keep sweat away from the skin. Margaret suggests rubbing your feet with lemon juice or surgical spirit to keep your feet fresh and clean. Alternatively, use an antifungal cream.

The human foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, as well as tendons, muscles, and ligaments.
