A Balmoral showdown for Kate and the Queen?

Following their make-or-break holiday in the Seychelles last month, it seems Prince William and Kate Middleton have put any relationship difficulties behind them.

While I'm told there is to be no engagement announcement for the foreseeable future, they are very much an item again and have already planned another romantic retreat.

Although they have yet to make a public appearance together, William and Kate are travelling to Balmoral next month where Kate, 25, will meet the Queen and Prince Philip.

A friend says: "William said the Seychelles holiday with Kate was perfect because it was just the two of them. It went so well they have planned another short trip to Scotland.

"William was originally going to take a group of friends stag-shooting to Balmoral, but he's decided he wants to have some time with Kate.

"They are very much in love and want to enjoy their relationship out of the spotlight before they go public again.

"It's peaceful and very private and one of the few getaways where they will have some more quality time together."

Kate, who is ditching her job at High Street chain Jigsaw to pursue a career in photography, has been a regular visitor to Balmoral during the couple's four-year courtship.

The pair have also been regular guests at Tam-na-Ghar, the Balmoral cottage given to William by his late great-grandmother, the Queen Mother, as a bolt-hole from life at St Andrews University.

Royal courtiers say the imminent meeting with the Queen will be particularly significant.

Until now Kate has enjoyed a warm welcome from the Monarch but their next meeting could be frostier.

Aides say the Queen encouraged William to call off the relationship when the pair were going through a rocky patch, and is concerned that William is not ready to settle down.
