A very pregnant Naomi Watts looks due to give birth any day now...

Naomi Watts is due to give birth next month with her first child

Looking like the proud mother-to-be she is, a very pregnant-looking Naomi Watts was spotted out-and-about shopping in California.

The British-born actress, who is entering the final weeks of her pregnancy, was in a jubilant mood as she laughed and rubbed her tummy, while browsing for fabrics with a friend.

This is the first child for 38-year-old Watts and her actor boyfriend Liev Schreiber.

The intensely-private couple have refused to reveal the gender or any possible names for their baby, although the oddly-named Schreiber is adamant his children won't be inheriting his name.

Rumours that the couple married last month were soon dispelled when it was revealed Schreiber was only joking.

During a red carpet appearance at the Tony Awards in New York - the theatre world's equivalent to the Oscars - Schreiber told 'Entertainment Tonight' that they were hitched.

He said: "We are married. You got it first. Break the story!"

However Schreiber's representative quickly denied the story, saying, "They're not married."

While Watts is a relative late comer to fame, she admits she still struggles with being famous.

"All this stuff, the raised expectations, the impossibility of privacy, is still unknown to me.

"I'm less familiar with it and it's kind of frightening," she says.

Watts appeared in a number of B-movies, before hitting the big time at the age of 32 with her starring role in David Lynch's surreal tale 'Mulholland Drive'. Since then she has notched up a number of impressive performances, including an Oscar-nominated turn as a grieving mother in '21 Grams' and as the damsal-in-distress Ann Darrow in 2005's blockbuster 'King Kong'.

She grew up in Shoreham in Kent and the Welsh island of Anglesey before moving to Australia at the age of 14 where she struck up a friendship with another movie-star-in-waiting - Nicole Kidman.
