Agent Daisy steals new lingerie assignment from Kate Moss

Budding model Daisy Lowe is about to learn that revenge is sweet in the fashion world.

For after she was rejected in favour of Kate Moss as the face of Agent Provocateur - prompting her to fume that the supermodel had 'stolen my thunder' - I can reveal that gawky Daisy is being lined up as Miss Moss's replacement at the lingerie brand.

With Kate about to be dropped by the underwear firm next month - amid whispers that at 33 she is looking tired and gaunt - I understand that 18-year-old Daisy has already completed a fashion shoot for the brand. The company are being tightlipped about their new model except to hint that she is not a conventional beauty.

But for Kate, Daisy's appointment would rub salt in a raw wound. The supermodel has been on non-speaking terms with Miss Lowe's louche mother Pearl, queen of the hard-partying Primrose Hill set, over her tell-all autobiography. Daisy, meanwhile, is limbering up nicely for a career in what is a fickle profession.

The other day she angered organisers at a celebrity swop shop event by failing to turn up and model for them - despite having been booked weeks in advance.

Instead, they received a last minute call explaining Daisy could not attend because she wanted to see rock band Queens Of The Stone Age play at the O2 Wireless festival in Hyde Park.

Move over Miss Moss.

Meanwhile, Ms Moss previously enjoyed a close friendship with the store's owners, Vivienne Westwood's son Joe Corre and his wife Serena Rees.

But their relationship was compromised earlier this year when Serena ran off with Paul Simonon, former bassist of rock band The Clash - and the husband of one of Kate's best friends.

Fashion sources say the relationship between Kate and Serena is now "very strained" - and they insist it is the underlying reason why Kate's contract has not been renewed. Last week Serena confirmed that the label has dropped Kate.

Speaking at the V&A's 150th anniversary celebrations, she told me: "Our current campaign with Kate comes to an end in August and we've already chosen our new face. It's top secret but she's quite different. She's not sexy in an overt way."

A friend of the supermodel said that Kate had hoped to renew her 12-month contract with the firm. "Kate really enjoyed doing the campaign for Agent Provocateur. It was a big comeback shoot after her cocaine scandal and she looked incredible," said the source.

"Kate was paid half a million pounds for her services, so obviously it was something she could continue doing. But when Serena ran off with Paul it made things complicated. Serena has been saying it was her decision not to use Kate."

A friend of Kate said: "Kate's work with Agent Provocateur was a one-off arrangement, almost as a favour for friends and there was never any long-term commitment from either side."
