The Pirates of the Caribbean star - in all his topless glory - set sail for a romantic getaway in the Mediterranean with his long-term partner, French actress Vanessa Paradis.

The trip comes as rumours are circulating that Depp is planning to wed Paradis after almost ten years together.

The star, who counts Kate Moss and Winona Ryder as former fiancées (he famously had a Winona Forever tattoo changed to Wino Forever after they split), says his connection to Paradis was instant.

He has said: "You have this feeling - I can't really explain what it was, but I had it when I met Vanessa. I saw her across a room and I thought: 'What's happening to me?'

"I had no way of knowing how great a person she was or how great a mother she would be.

"I can remember thinking the last thing in the world I wanted was a relationship, but it was impossible to escape. I was gone."

The couple have a home in the South of France, but also own a remote island to raise their children, 7-year-old Lily-Rose and Jack, 4.

He explained: "The only thing money means to me is the freedom it buys me. Living in the islands is heaven. It'll be easier to give (my children) a normal upbringing there."

The blockbuster star has a number of projects in the pipeline, including the musical thriller Sweeney Todd, alongside Helena Bonham Carter, and a leading role in Sin City 2.
