Alesha: 'I've gone from suicidal to Strictly Come Dancing queen – now I'm set to make £5m'

Strictly Come Dancing winner Alesha Dixon has revealed that she was contemplating suicide this time last year after a series of heartbreaking set backs - but her fortunes have taken a dramatic turn for the better since 12.1million viewers watched her waltz to victory.

A year ago her solo singing career stalled, she was dropped by her record label, and her husband walked out on her after an affair with one of her friends.

"It was the lowest point of my life. I just kept thinking, 'What have I done to deserve this?' I didn't see the point in living." says Alesha.

"Look at me now. I've learned to dance, I'm happy and I believe it was meant to happen.

Host Bruce Forsyth has heaped praise on Alesha, saying that the former Misteeq star could be "Britain's Beyonce".

And PR guru Max Clifford predicted that Alesha could earn £ 5million in the next 12 months from magazine deals, advertising and album sales.

"What the win has given her is the biggest shop window she could have wanted," he said.

"In the next 12 months she will have another load of offers.

"In time for her next album there will be TV opportunities and advertising opportunities.

"She's a very attractive girl and as she's now red-hot she should have the most amazing year

"It sounds like she has had an interesting life which would make interesting TV or a book."

Singer Alesha remains amazed at how quickly the tide has turned.

Winner takes all: Alesha struts her way to Strictly victory

"Last Christmas was a real, real low point. Anyone who knows me knows that my music career and marriage were the most important things. And I lost them within two weeks of each other." She confesses.

The 29-year-old says that she is still in contact with her soon-to-be-ex husband rapper MC Harvey who is expecting a chid with singer Javine.

"He wished me good luck. He always told me I'd be brilliant on Strictly.

"I have forgiven Harvey. We're adults and we're dealing with it as maturely as two people can."

Before the final of Strictly Come Dancing, Alesha had spoken of her fears that women voters would choose her "gorgeous" rival, 20-year-old EastEnders actor Matt Di Angelo, instead of her.

But in the end, her polished performances of the waltz, cha-cha and jive with partner Matthew Cutler impressed the four judges - who gave her 112 out of 120 points - and the voting public.

Controversially, Alesha has chosen not to join the other contestants on a tour of the country's arenas in January.

Instead, she will focus on reviving her singing career by releasing an album next year. A spell on the West End stage might also be on the cards.

Before the final, Miss Dixon admitted: "I would love to do musicals, especially something like Chicago."

Offers are now flooding into Miss Dixon's agent, who said she had more than 150 calls and offers before lunchtime.

Her publicist, Liz Matthews, added: "The world is her oyster. She's the nation's sweetheart."

The astonishing turnaround puts an end to a miserable couple of years for Alesha.

After her band Mis-Teeq broke up in 2005, she embarked on a solo career but was dropped by her label after her second single reached just No. 45 in the charts.

In November last year, her husband MC Harvey left her for her friend, fellow pop singer Javine Hylton. The couple are now expecting a baby together.

Alesha said that the win was "the best Christmas present a girl could ask for".

She added: "It's put a smile on my face. 2007 is great. I thought it was going to be rubbish."

The Strictly Come Dancing tour has run into trouble before it has even begun, the Mail can reveal.

The professional dancers who partner the celebrities involved are said to be furious after discovering that the show's judges get more than double their pay.

For £5,000 a week, the dancers perform twice a day as well as training their partners and choreographing their routines.

Meanwhile, Craig Revel Horwood, Arlene Philips and Len Goodman get £12,000 for simply delivering acerbic comments. The BBC1 show's fourth judge, Bruno Tonioli, is not joining them.

One of the professionals, Brendan Cole, has refused to take part in the 37-date tour, which starts on January 18.

However, Alesha Dixon's partner Matthew Cutler will appear, along with actor Matt Di Angelo and his partner Flavia Cacace.
