In Pictures: GQ Men of the Year Awards
The artist wore the famous white overalls at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards, presenting a prize before removing her helmet and declaring: "I'm happy to announce I'm the new Stig... Just the idea of being Stig for 10 minutes was enough for me to do this. I've never felt so masculine and amazing in my life."
Emin had to be helped into a car by jewellery designer Stephen Webster and another friend by 11.30pm. She joined guests from film, TV, music, politics and art at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden last night.
David Cameron, named politician of the year, raised eyebrows with risqué jokes. On England's match against Switzerland, he quipped: "Wayne Rooney has scored and this time it's on the pitch, in the opponent's goal... so I'm pleased to announce that."
Jon Hamm, star of BBC4 show Mad Men, took the International Man prize. He said: "We're on a small network and just delighted with how well we've done. We never thought it would connect with audiences like the UK."
Winners included Gemma Arterton (women), Gorillaz (music), James Corden (comedy), Ryan Giggs (sport) and Matt Smith (best actor). Martin Scorsese gave Giorgio Armani the designer award and Ray Davies won for outstanding achievement. Aaron Johnson was most stylish man.
