Apprentice winner loses baby

TV Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry has lost the baby she was expecting with fellow contestant Syed Ahmed, her spokesman said tonight.

Dewberry was taken to hospital suffering from stomach pains at the beginning of the week. After a series of tests she was told that she had lost the baby.

A spokesman said: "Michelle and the baby's father, Syed Ahmed, are both extremely upset and are currently supporting each other through this difficult period."

The spokesman said: "At the beginning of the week Michelle Dewberry was taken into hospital following stomach pains.

"After a series of tests, she was informed that she had lost the baby. They ask that their privacy is respected during this time."

Self-styled entrepreneur Ahmed recently spoke about the pregnancy, saying: "I am in love with Michelle and I want to marry her."

He has said: "Of course we are together and these are exciting times, but at the same time I think Michelle is having quite a complex pregnancy. "I'm trying to protect her and keep her covered as much as possible."

The pair met last year while battling for a £100,000-a-year job with Sir Alan Sugar in the second series of the BBC2 reality TV show.

Former telecoms consultant Dewberry, 26, from Hull, was reported to be on "gardening leave" from her new post with Sir Alan after becoming pregnant.

The multimillionaire tycoon had given Dewberry a job as head of his new firm Xenon Green, which disposes of unwanted computer equipment.

Ahmed, 31, from London's East End, has been caught up in controversy since appearing and being fired from the reality TV show.

It recently emerged that he had been questioned by police on suspicion of involvement with a money-laundering scam. He was arrested and later released on police bail.

Ahmed was also recently handed a suspended jail sentence after being caught drink-driving for the fourth time. Magistrates ordered him to attend alcohol counselling. The couple have had two brief splits during their love affair.

Ahmed recently said he would like Dewberry to convert to his Muslim faith, saying: "It has to come from the inside. She needs to feel it in her heart. There is no point doing it just to please me."
