Aren't you a bit old for that bottle, Suri Cruise?

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise's parenting techniques have been called into question because their two-year-old daughter Suri is still using a bottle.

The A-list offspring was spotted suckling on the bottle during a shopping trip with mum Katie in New York earlier this week.

Parenting experts and paediatricians recommend parents start to wean their child off the bottle at the age of one.

Hands full: Two-year-old Suri Cruise multi-tasks as she drinks from her bottle while carrying a shoe and blankie

The cute toddler is frequently photographed drinking from a bottle - despite turning two last month.

Dr Charlotte Cowan, author of the Dr Hippo parenting books, told Us Weekly magazine: "Most paediatricians recommend a bottle should be given up by age one — almost certainly by 18 months."

Dr Cowan noted that the Cruises may have continued to feed Suri her bottle instead of moving her on to training (sippy) cups because of their frequent travelling.

Dr Cowan added: "When babies are challenged, their diet is upset, their sleep is upset.

Shopping is hard work: Suri has a rest while her mother shops up a storm

"They will regress back to previous habits ... lingering with a bottle is comforting. You could argue that her parents have decided that this is not the time to try to wean her off if they're travelling frequently."

Suri joined her famous parents on a trip to New York last week, where the superstar couple visited the theatre and joined their celebrity friends at the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala.

Despite her evening socialising, devoted mother Katie was inseparable from her adorable daughter during the day and showed the youngster the sights of New York.

Mummy's little princess: Suri clutches her bottle as she is carried down the street by stylish mother Katie

Given her diminutive size, Suri had her hands full as she was carried down the streets of Manhattan clutching not only her blankie and bottle, but a red Robert Vivier designer shoe.

Suri appeared to acquire the lone shoe during a trip to the Robert Vivier boutique earlier in the day - although it wasn't clear if her mother had bought the matching foot.

Unlike many children who quickly grow bored of toys, Suri seemed enamoured with the patent shoe and carried it all day.

While her mother chose baby clothes in posh childrenswear store Jacadi on Madison Avenue, young Suri kept herself occupied playing with the red shoe and sipping on her bottle.

And it appears the Batman Begins actress isn't the only style icon in the family, young Suri cut a fashionable figure as she trundled around the store in her expensive Pucci dress.
