Liz performs her famous 'back pose' yet again

When Liz met Grayson

Liz Hurley was resplendent in Versace, but Turner prizewinning transvestite potter Grayson Perry outshone her in High Street garb at the first night of the V&A's Beauty Week, bankrolled by Estee Lauder.

Perry, pictured with Hurley, revealed he has rejected haute couture for off-the-peg. "Everything I'm wearing is High Street," he said, "but I think Whistles is particularly good."

The Londoner was formally barred by Estee Lauder from speaking to Hurley - presumably in case she said something of interest - however design consultant Stephen Bayley, who showed Hurley around the V&A, was clearly impressed by the pulchritudinous clotheshorse.

"She is an undoubtedly beautiful woman," he mused, "but I was prepared to be sceptical. Although no one has been more narky and snide about celebrity culture than me, if Liz Hurley is representative of it I change my mind - and I want more..."

At this point Mr Bayley changed his tune, saying: "Oh, that's my wife over there." Wise man.
