Preston has admitted he has not seen much of his girlfriend since leaving the Big Brother house.
The singer's on-screen flirtation with blonde winner Chantelle is said to have left Camille Aznar, 25, devastated.
The Ordinary Boys singer told GMTV: "I'm just trying to protect them both."
He said: "I don't want to get her (Camille) involved and I don't want to get Chantelle involved.
"I don't want Chantelle to think she's anything but absolutely wicked."
He said he had not had a chance to catch up properly with Camille.
"I have been doing CD:UK, Top of the Pops... and I'm here, so I haven't really seen her," Preston said.
The 24-year-old said his girlfriend had gone into hiding and quit her job because of the paparazzi.
He said of the Big Brother experience: "It was just something I did. I'm still a singer."
He said: "It's amazing how quickly you forget you're on TV.
"You forget the cameras and just get on with it. I didn't really think about the outside world. It was such a bubble.
"I haven't lost my rag ever in my life. In there I properly lost it, which is totally out of character."
Preston admitted in an interview with yesterday's Sunday Mirror: "I love Camille and I want to do right by her.
"But now I also love Chantelle, and she's going to be in my life. It's messy, but the truth is I love them both."
