Kate is wearing Pete's ring

Back together: Kate Moss and Pete Doherty

When pictures of her snorting cocaine threatened to end her modelling career, Kate Moss bowed to pressure and broke off her relationship with junkie Pete Doherty.

But it appears that the troubled rock singer was one habit she simply could not kick.

The pair have been pictured together for the first time in months after openly kissing during the recording of a TV music show.

And a flashy bauble on her wedding finger led to speculation that the pair might have become engaged, with rumours that Jade Jagger is throwing a party for them in Ibiza this week.

Last night friends said the vintage diamond ring was a present from 27-year-old Doherty last week.

They added that at rock star Bobby Gillespie's wedding two weeks ago, the model told them: 'It's going to be me next.'

Miss Moss, 32, is also telling all and sundry that Doherty, singer with the group Babyshambles, is 'a modern-day genius and I can't be without him'.

The renewed relationship has apparently devastated Miss Moss's mother Linda.

'When Kate said she was going to give the relationship with Pete a proper try, she and Linda had a furious row,' said a source.

'Linda thinks Pete has been a disaster for Kate and she tried to tell her not to be so stupid.

'But Kate's response was that she loves Pete and knows she can't be happy without him.'

Miss Moss first got together with heroin addict Doherty at her 31st birthday party in January last year.

A few months later she was pictured snorting cocaine in a recording studio with him and a group of other friends.

As her fashion contracts began dropping off, Miss Moss was forced to ditch Doherty.

But while she has dated other men since then, friends say her heart was always with Doherty.

The couple were seen kissing at Friday's recording of the Channel 4 show Transmission, after which they spent the night at the home of Miss Moss's friend Davinia Taylor.

'Even when she was supposed to be with the comedian Russell-Brand she was still secretly seeing Pete,' said a friend.

'She may be off the cocaine but Pete is like a drug for her --he's an addiction that she can't cure.'

It seems Kate Moss really loves this guy. Why shouldn't she marry him? If he's a mess, maybe she feels she can help him clean up his act and fulfil his potential. He's been quoted a number of times as saying he'll do anything for her, including giving up drugs. You never know - there might just be a happy ending to all this.
