Gordon Ramsay repeatedly fluffs his lines on tonight's Have I Got News For You, which was recorded yesterday.

Ramsay missed the autocue and mistimed his answers after Paul Merton interrupted him with constant quips, such as: "Where do you keep your Michelin stars? Do you sew them on your pyjamas?"

And he taunted: "Jamie Oliver's a great chef. The best. A force for good."

As Ramsay stumbled over his words, Merton jibed: "At this rate we'll be going out live."

The chef was forced to retract an earlier promise to the studio audience to treat them all to dinner if he made too many mistakes. "Any more than six f***-ups, you've all got dinner as my guest at Claridge's," he pledged before filming began.

In the end, despite trying to keep his cool the 39-year-old chef finally rounded on his co-stars - branding fellow guest Andrew Neil a "fat bastard" .

"If I went into your kitchen and made shepherd's pie it would be shit," retorted Merton. "But I wouldn't be mouthy about it."
