Madonna decides on baby David's godfather

Updated 11:07am on 24 Oct 2006

Madonna is to ask gay actor Rupert Everett to be baby David's godfather.

According to The Sun newspaper singer Madonna has told friends she wants Rupert, who she has been friends with for over 20 years, to play a big part in David Banda's life.

Madonna: I will let David decide where he lives when he is 18

Rupert, 47, has experience of working with African Aids victims.

A source told The Sun: "Madonna and Rupert have been pals for years and he is one of her closest friends. But more than that her trip to Africa was partly inspired by Rupert's work out there."

"She knows he spends a lot of time in the country through his work with Aids charities and that he knows the country well."

"She feel he knows the culture well and would be a great help to David as he grows up."

As the voice of Prince Charming in the Shrek films and Fox in The Chronicles Of Narnia, Rupert will no doubt come in handy for reading bedtime stories to little David.

Madonna plans for the baby's future show that she and husband Guy Ritchie are confident that the adoption will be approved, despite David's father saying he did not realise it would be permanent.
