Divorce means I'm 'always broke' complains Law

Law - pictured with on-off girlfriend Sienna Miller - denies being a womaniser

With his classic English good looks and reputation as a ladies' man, Jude Law is never short of a lead role in a blockbuster movie.

The actor, whose credits ranges from Alfie to The Talented Mr Ripley, is currently appearing alongside Cameron Diaz in The Holiday.

Sienna admits: Jude drove me to therapy

But there is still one aspect of Hollywood stardom which has so far eluded Law - the money.

In the latest insight into the world of celebrity divorces, the 33-year old says he is continually broke because of the huge financial demands of ex-wife Sadie Frost, 41.

Asked what was the worst thing in his life to date, Law said: "My divorce! I lost everything in order to get the right to visit my children.

"My bank account is therefore almost always empty! But I don't have a single regret.

"My children's happiness is the only thing that is important to me. I've just had two very difficult years, and I battened down the hatches to pay the bills.

"I'm not Brad Pitt. I don't earn 20 million dollars a film, nothing like that. I'd be happy to do one film a year for that kind of money.

Since my divorce, I've started a new existence. More simple, more sober, and more discreet."

Last year Law and Frost finally reached a divorce settlement following two years of bitter argument.

Both signed confidentiality agreements preventing them from discussing the deal, but Frost kept the couple's £2 million house in north London's Primrose Hill.

She is also believed to have been given £4 million in cash, supplemented by a living allowance of around £15,000 a month.

Frost will also receive a share in all Law's future earnings.

The agreement, concluded in London's High Court, followed the disclosure of numerous cringing details about the couple's private life.

These included allegations of orgies and sex-swapping sessions among the so-called 'Primrose Hill Set.'

Law also faced a six-figure legal bill which was run up since Frost first filed for divorce in August 2003.

Frost claimed she gave up her own promising career as an actress to play housewife to Jude and mother to their children Rafferty, nine, Iris, five, Rudy, three, and her son Finlay, 15, from her first marriage, to former Spandau Ballet pop star Gary Kemp.

Law originally wanted all the money to go to the couple's children.

Discussing how his life had settled down as he approaches his 34th birthday on December 29, Law said: "I'm relieved. I think that it gives me enormous opportunities in my career.

"That may seem strange, but I always wanted to appear older than my age.

"Having 34 years gives me a weightiness which allows me to turn a page.

"You can't imagine the number of roles of young seducers that I've turned down these past years.

"I've fought to get other projects for myself. Playing a sexy bachelor has never been my cup of tea, as they say in England."

Asked about his on-off relationship with 23-year-old starlet Sienna Miller, and his reputation as a heartbreaker, Law said: "That amuses me because I've never been a womaniser.

"At least, perhaps I broke some hearts around 17 or 18. At 20 I met my ex-wife Sadie Frost and we divorced three years ago. I've never been a flirt who racks up conquests."

Asked about his affair with nanny Daisy Wright last year - while he was engaged to Sienna - Law said: "I owned up to that mistake. But it's not like I have dozens of scandals behind me. I'm human and we do all kinds of stupid things.

"The only difference is that the smallest of my lapses in behaviour end up in the press. It's the price of success, I imagine."

Asked directly if he was still with Sienna, Law said: "I'm going to stop you right there. It's out of the question to talk about my private life or my lovers. That's not known to anyone except me."

Law made his comments in an interview with the French magazine Gala.

Jude made a mistake, he apologised for it. I wish people would let the poor man get on with his life. He seems like a lovely person, and certainly a devoted father and I've the utmost respect for him that he always seems to put his children's welfare above anything else. There are loads of other men who'd be far more bitter about having to pay so much in their divorce, yet as long as he gets to see his kids, he seems to be okay with it.

As to his relationships, I so hope that he's done with Sienna. He's well shot of her and deserves someone far better than that silly, attention-seeking cow.
