Setting sail: Prince Harry is planning a New Year getaway with his sun-kissed sweetheart

Harry plots a king-size New Year with Chelsy

Updated 12:52pm on 26 Dec 2006

They may be apart for Christmas but Prince Harry is making up for not being with his girlfriend Chelsy Davy.

The 22-year-old Royal, who will miss tomorrow's traditional Christmas lunch at Sandringham because he is on military duty, has planned a romantic getaway in the sun with his Zimbabwean sweetheart, I can reveal.

Harry will jet off to spend New Year's Eve with Chelsy, below, at their favourite holiday destination - the unspoilt island of Bazaruto just off the coast of Mozambique in Africa.

The couple have enjoyed several breaks on the paradise isle but Harry is planning an extra-special trip this time, saying this may be their last holiday before he goes to war.

The Prince is training for service in Iraq and has insisted he will join his regiment, the Blues and Royals, when it is deployed there - which insiders say could be as early as next spring. In the meantime, the fun-loving Prince, who is third in line to the throne, is determined to spend as much time as possible with Chelsy.

"Harry wants to make sure he and Chelsy see in the New Year as they intend to go on - together,' reports a chum. "He also knows they might not see each other for a while if he's sent off on duty.

"He's made sure the trip will be an extra-special one and has booked a £2,000-a-week luxury cabin with a king-size canopy bed, sunken bath and an open-air shower."

But Harry shouldn't get too carried away with the high-living, as I'm told he has been ordered by Army bosses to lay off the booze and mince pies over the holiday season in preparation for a gruelling Para training course in February.

Commanders have warned the ambitious Second Lieutenant to focus on his fitness if he wants to pass the three-week P Company selection test, often seen as a first stage for those going on to serve in the elite SAS.
