Why I walked out of TV pop quiz: Preston
Updated 18:22pm on 11 Jan 2007Celebrity Big Brother star Preston has revealed why he stormed off TV quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
The Ordinary Boys singer walked out in disgust when his wife Chantelle was made the butt of a joke by host Simon Amstell.

"I went on Never Mind The Buzzcocks and I was very up for the kind of rib-poking that you get on it but then he just started insulting my wife and, as any married man would know, if that was in any other situation I would have literally hit him and knocked him out," Preston told Radio 1's Newsbeat.
"Obviously I didn't want to resort to those sorts of things, so I just had to remove myself from the situation.
"If I'd had to look at his snotty little public schoolboy failed-career face, I would have hit him.
"He's got no charm. He's very bitter because he went on Popworld, he thought that he was going to have this Ant and Dec massive career, and he's just doing some little budget indie show on late at night."
Preston, 24, wed 23-year-old Chantelle after meeting on last year's Celebrity Big Brother. The Never Mind The Buzzcocks recording took place on Tuesday and Amstell jokingly read out an extract from Chantelle's autobiography Living The Dream.
Describing a photoshoot in which she wore Marks and Spencer clothes, the Essex girl wrote: "I've always loved M&S, but it had always been too expensive for me. The photoshoot made me feel very posh and upmarket."
Preston said he hoped his walk-out would be broadcast on the BBC2 show.
"I think it's brilliant - at least I've got principles. No one's got principles any more," he claimed.
And Chantelle was moved by his principled stand. "She thought it was funny and quite sweet. She was really touched, actually," he said.

LOL! That was the most funniest Never Mind The Buzzcocks ever! And Steve R, calm down. Every one is entitled to thier opinion.
But, that was amazing. I LOVED it. Preston is a tit and Simon is a freaking genius. On that show you are guaranteed to be insulted. You didn't see any of the other guests walking off when they were insulted. Preston needs to loosen up because it a JOKE. God. Some people have no sense of humour. I'd find it so funny if that was my husband. Honestly. He could've come back with something witty himself.
But yeah. Awesome.

It was pathetic to walk out. It's part of the fun, Simon isn't sour or any of that rubbish that Steve thinks. If you can't laugh at your own life and those around you, you really do not have a sense of humor. If Simon really was being cruel or inappropiate I would understand. But if that was said about my wife I would stand up for her, and not run out, but I would also find it pretty funny.

Preston says that he was up for the rib-poking, but was making it clear to Simon Amstell that he was even offended with the way he was introduced at the start of the show. He was sticking up for his wife, and good for him, but all he did was show everyone watching that he obviously couldn't laugh even at himself. By walking out all he did was encourage more jokes aimed at him. If he had so called principles, and maybe a little integrety, he could have stayed and just said that he wanted Simon to shut up.

Preston knew thathe was getting a lot of rib-poking, as Simon Amstrell and the others do to everybody. He needed to have a sense of humour, learn how to take a joke. Funny TV though, had me in stitches.

...and as I am here;
Carolyn, London - How can a television presenter as low down the scale as Simon Amstell possibly earn more than Preston? That's humourous.
Steve R, London - A publicity stunt? Did you even watch the show? I'm guessing you did not or you would see exactly why Preston walked off. If you were married - you could well be - would you accept ANYBODY making fun of your wife? No you would not. Would you hit them if they carried on even though you made it obvious that you were not amused - probably.
Preston behaved very appropriately and Simon Amstell WILL get hit one of these days, I just hope it is very soon.

Are you kidding me? Preston was well within his rights to walk off the show. He basically warned that idiot Amstell from the start. When Amstell first read an excerpt from Chantelles' book, he was being very clear that he wasn't amused. I have a lot of respect for Preston for not resorting to violence, because to be honest ANYONE would have wanted to in that situation. One more thing - Cat from London - How has Preston got a "failed-career" face. The Ordinary Boys are one of the freshest bands this country has seen in a long while.

Low budget indie show? Tell that to the BBC and Talkback Thames... I can guarantee Simon is earning a lot more than you are, Preston, and doesn't have to have a naff celebrity wedding to pay the mortgage...

Going onto a TV quiz show, and then walking off a TV quiz show, hardly constitutes a principled stand, Mr Preston. I think a more accurate description would be "publicity stunt"!

"... snotty little public schoolboy failed-career face..." is that line not the pot calling the kettle black.
