It was a case of "Haven't I seen you somewhere before?" for Kate Moss last night as she came face to face with a series of her portraits by photographer Corinne Day, which show her without makeup.

The 33-year-old brought along her on/off lover Pete Doherty to the National Portrait Gallery where the montage of nine faces of Miss Moss in her natural glory will join kings, queens and prime ministers on permanent display once the current Face of Fashion exhibition finishes at the end of May.

Moss has reacted modestly to the intimacy of the photographs, admitting: "I've got crooked teeth, bow legs, a wonky nose."

Doherty is due to face Thamas magistrates this morning charged with four driving offences.

Guests at last night's event included Vogue editor Alexandra Schulman, Jane Asher, Gerald Scarfe and French designer Nicole Farhi, who gave her withering verdict on the size-zero debate.

"This obsession with thinness is not what I'm looking for," she said. "Nor do I like this extreme moodiness, another look which is very fashionable. I like the face to actually light up with something. That is far more interesting."
