The man paying rapt attention to Posh's newly-blonde locks on a visit to Los Angeles is her trusty hairdresser Ben Cooke, a confirmed bachelor.

The 32-year-old former Spice Girl favours him as her escort when her husband is otherwise engaged.

When the pair attended a Madonna concert at Wembley Arena last year, a friend commented on her generosity in bringing her hairdresser.

He was said to have retorted: 'Invited me? I was the one with the extra ticket.'

Mr Cooke, 36, runs the Lockonego salon on King's Road, Chelsea, with his business partner Jonathan Long, 32.

The pair flew to California a week ago to be on hand to address any hair emergencies for Mrs Beckham throughout the Oscars and ensuing parties.

While out there, the trio decided she should go blonde and had her layered bob and new colour done by Jennifer Aniston's hairdresser, Chris MacMillan - the man responsible for most of her legendary haircuts during her years in Friends.

Heavens to Betsy, do we REALLY still use the term "confirmed bachelor"?! How very maiden aunt...

When Posh first had her hair cut I thought it was fantastic and really suited her - was definitely a good look, but this latest change is awful. I don't like it at all, particularly with those ridiculous over-sized sunglasses she insists on wearing. Oh dear, has the Brit Style Icon lost it before she's even living there?

Makes my `number two all over', with a `one to tighten it at the sides and back' a real cheapo; but all the same, ain't life a gas!

I had my haircut at Ben Cooke's salon Lockonego in Chelsea and am now addicted. It was the most fabulous cut I've ever had and he's an absolute sweetie.

I think it's a fantastic haircut, the new "Rachel" possibly? I bet there are loads of people out there fed up of split ends who'll copy it.

I do not think it suits her at all, she looks more and more like a lollipop, she looks like a miserable boy. What makes this girl smile she is so moody all the time, when will we see her teeth! Smile Victoria.

Those who say "money can't buy you happiness" could hold Ms Posh up as a prime example. Smile, woman, smile!

Its obvious the term blondes have more fun doesn't apply to posh, she looks as miserable as sin as usual!
