It looks like a desperate attempt to win favour with the gangster rappers of Los Angeles.

Shoulders hunched, squatting close to the ground in a baggy white T-shirt and shorts with knitted hat, David Beckham's pose mirrors that of controversial rap star Eminem.

Modelling his new lifestyle collection for Adidas, Beckham has chosen a range of loose-fitting tracksuits and hooded tops favoured by the rap and hip-hop community.

Is it Beckham, or rapper Eminem?

With more then 70 million album sales worldwide, Eminem has attracted praise and condemnation in equal measure for his lyrics which some claim promote homophobia and violence.

Beckham's latest launch is part of publicity campaign aimed at introducing the former England captain to the U.S. market.

The 31-year-old is moving to the Los Angeles Galaxy from Real Madrid at the end of the season after agreeing a five-year, £250 million deal.

Beckham himself claims he is not harbouring any illusions about the football in America.

He said: "I'm not silly enough to think that soccer is going to be as big as baseball, American football or basketball. But if I can help in some way bringing the kids through in the U.S. then I will have achieved what I want to have achieved."

I think David looks FAB as Eminem. He looks a bit daft, but I'm sure he knows this. He's not trying to be Eminem, I'm sure this look is only for the photoshoot!

He's way too old for this look!

David Beckham is many things....fine footballer, devoted father, handsome pin-up, astute businessman. But, with his high pitched voice, he sure ain't no gangsta rapper from the 'hood, and this attempt to portray him as such is simply ludicrous!

- Steve R, London, UK

no, the look doesn't work at all, he just looks silly!

- Fenella, Houston USA

Just let him stay over there and have no impact here, he doesn't play for or in England any more so can we just drop it please? And he can take those Gillette adverts with him too.

- Trevor Roll, London

For goodness sake man - grow up! You're past 30, you're not 15!!!

I've never seen such a silly picture for years!

- Scott, London
