Desperate Housewives hunk Jesse goes into rehab

Updated 08:08am on 23 Mar 2007

She has described him as 'the most amazing guy in the world' and told friends he was 'the one'.

But Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle is now alone after her actor boyfriend admitted he was battling alcohol problems and checked into rehab.

Desperate Housewives actor Jesse Metcalfe, 28, was said to have gone on a four-day drinking binge before checking himself in for treatment.

The news came as a blow to Miss Coyle, 21, who has been spending an increasing amount of time in Los Angeles to be with him.

Speculation had been rife that the Irish singer was planning to move permanently to the US and was even hoping her Derry-based family would set up home there.

A spokesman for the Hollywood actor said: "Jesse entered a rehab facility to deal with alcohol issues.

"He realised he had a problem and was anxious to deal with it immediately."

Metcalfe, who played the teenage gardener who seduced Eva Longoria's character Gabrielle Solis in the popular TV series, was understood to have embarked on a drinking spree last week.

He was banned from the Mondrian Hotel in LA - where Britney Spears hid when she shaved her head - after shouting at a doorman last Friday, the New York Post said.

As his boozing continued, so did his erratic, drunken behaviour. On Saturday he was spotted at four different clubs throughout the evening and was joined in one venue by Miss Coyle.

His boozing involved him "partying for four days straight and being really mean to staff at the Mondrian. At one point he blew up at the doorman because they would not let him in," it was reported in the US.

Earlier this year Miss Coyle's father Niall told excitedly of the family's plans to relocate to the US.

He said: "We are looking at the idea of opening an Irish bar on the beach and turning it into a big success.

"Nadine is really excited about the idea and loves the lifestyle over there. We were over in LA for two months with her and are looking very seriously at making a permanent move."

Miss Coyle and Metcalfe embarked on a relationship a year ago after meeting in Australia.

They were immediately smitten with each other and began flying between London and LA to meet up.

The couple split briefly in November last year because of the distance between their homes but reunited shortly afterwards. Since then they have both been largely based in America.

Unfortunately, the kind of attitude of "if you don't get mullered on a four day binge - you're a lightweight" is the reason for the hige rate of alcohol related deaths, illnesses, violence, teenage addiction in England.

Over here a 'four day drinking binge' is called a bank holiday. Lightweight.
