Heather stuns dance show judges with audacious back flip

Updated 16:38pm on 27 Mar 2007

Heather Mills stunned judges in the US version of Strictly Come Dancing with an audacious routine which included a daring back-flip.

Wearing a green sequinned catsuit, Ms Mills left the panel of choreographers temporarily speechless by completing the tricky move despite wearing a prosthesis after losing part of one leg in a 1993 traffic accident.

Heather Mills: Heather wowed the judges and the Dancing With the Stars audience with an audacious routine which included this show-stopping backflip

They awarded her 24 out of 30. Combined with her score from the first show last week, it moved Ms Mills and professional dance partner Jonathan Roberts into fifth place.

Bruno Tonioli said: "Beyond any expectation! You were on warp drive tonight. Red-hot Heather - I can't believe what you did."

Heather and her dance partner Jonathan Roberts were awarded 24 out of 30. Combined with her score from the first show last week, it moved her into fifth place overall

Fellow judge Carrie Ann Inaba said: "I'm just so blown away by you. The level of difficulty in that routine was far higher than anyone else's routine tonight and you would think you wouldn't throw that in, but you did and you nailed it."

The former model, 39, who is taking part in Dancing With The Stars during her bitter divorce from Sir Paul McCartney, then appealed to the TV audience not to vote her off.

Heather is crossing her fingers for another good performance in next week's programme

She said: "A year ago there's no way I would ever have believed I'd be dancing now, so I am enjoying every second of it. I really, really hope I'm not going to be the first to go."

The couple scoring fewest votes from judges and viewers will be eliminated. Beatles fans are campaigning for Ms Mills to go.

"Is there really room for a gold digger in Dancing With The Stars?" one asks on the show's website.

If the show's called "Dancing with the Stars", is Heather paired with someone famous?

I agree with Dave. People should not delude themselves into thinking that they know everything about the McCartney divorce, which is not even their personal business in the first place! Kudos, Heather!

Heather's performance is an inspiration for all amputees. The rest of her life can't touch or tarnish it.

To be fair to all the contestants and the show in general, Heather should be judged only by what she does on the dancefloor, not by whatever is going on in her personal life, which really, is nobody's business.

You go girl! I am so awed by your refusal to allow your disability to define your life. Your willingness to live and perform outside the box, to proactively live your life in a way that inspires, is your gift.

Maybe all the folks who have taken sides in the McCartney divorce will be encouraged to take a step back and think more subtly. Like: Maybe they're both pretty nice people who aren't necessarily at their best during this divorce. Neither villains nor superheroes. That describes a lot of people out there.

And certainly Heather's performance was a wake-up call for people who underestimate the so-called "disabled." Good for her.

Now all of a sudden she is this wonderful person. Amazing! We all know it's hard to pick on a person who is disabled. She comes up smelling like a rose, either way. She has used the McCartney name, just like Yoko Ono has used Lennon's name!

Good for Heather for carrying on despite the bullying and what a fillip her peformance is for anyone with a disability. It amazes me she can get up in the morning after the mauling she receives every day thanks to the massed ranks of harridans and misogynists.

She's really doing great on "Dancing with the Stars", and I think it's wonderful that she's putting herself out there. To heck with all you pro-Paul McCartney people. Heather is not a gold digger, not in the least. She had to put up with his rubbish for a long time. Just get off her back, please!

I guess her car is waiting for her in a disabled bay at Heathrow.

Is it today they start voting people off? Wouldn't like to be on the same plane back as Heather...
