Singing waitress gets Glastonbury gig

Updated 09:39am on 30 May 2007

The teenage waitress who was plucked from obscurity to sing for George Clooney in Cannes has been booked to perform at Glastonbury.

Victoria Hart will play the John Peel stage for up-and-coming artists.

She became an overnight sensation when she landed the gig of a lifetime at the Cannes Film Festival.

Record companies are now queueing up to sign her - although she has yet to finalise a deal.

The 18-year-old jazz singer was chosen to sing at a Cannes Film Festival party on board an £80 million yacht last week.

The celebrity-studded bash was held to raise money for Darfur. Besides Clooney, the guest list included Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Despite her new-found fame, Victoria plans to continue her job as a "singing waitress" at the Naked Turtle restaurant in Richmond, south-west London - although she may cut down to one shift a fortnight.
