Katie was a joke, say Apprentice finalists

Updated 09:53am on 14 Jun 2007

The Apprentice finalists Kristina Grimes and Simon Ambrose may be opponents, but they were united on one issue - their dislike of disgraced former contestant Katie Hopkins.

In the lead up to the finale, which airs tonight, both have slammed Hopkins, who has boasted of her affairs, and was recently caught out in an embarrassing outdoor romp with a married man.

Grimes, whom Hopkins once referred to as "a hard evil little wench with a forked tongue," stepped up as a finalist after Hopkins spectacularly quit.

Grimes told the Daily Mirror: "Why can't people see what I see - that she is a total joke? People keep saying she is intelligent , but if you think intelligence is sleeping with married men and only getting to wherever you are because you have slept your way there, then more fool you."

Apprentice finalists Simon Ambrose and Kritina Grimes have both criticised former contestant Katie Hopkins

Ambrose, an internet entrepreneur, added: "I come from a broken home and I didn't appreciate Katie's actions.

"I didn't think it should be something that is congratulated.

Katie Hopkins quit the show after being put through to the final

"My parents split up when I was three. It was quite a tough, arduous childhood for myself and my sister ... I don't think sleeping with married men is a good idea."

He said the focus on Hopkins "lowered the tone of the programme".

Ambrose, from Clapham, south London, added: "We've been trying to keep it as serious as possible.

"It's a bit of a sideshow that's gone on which is unnecessary and superfluous.

The pair were also photographed in a passionate embrace

"She'd make an excellent teacher. She's a fantastic consultant, a good presenter, she's well thought out. Would she have been a good apprentice? I don't think so."

Sir Alan Sugar was more diplomatic when asked about the former contestant, saying: "I just don't understand her really, she is a very, very intelligent person and I only hope that one day she will start directing that intelligence of hers in a more productive way.

"I think she will reflect back in a few years time and realise that she may have wasted some time in doing what she is doing now."

Hopkins has since been fired from her day job.

The Meteorological Office dismissed her for bringing the weather forecasters into disrepute, a decision Hopkins intends to challenge at an employment tribunal.

Viewers will learn tonight whether single mother Grimes or former investment banker Ambrose beat 14 others to land the £100,000 plum job working with Alan Sugar.

The final test on the show is billed as Sir Alan's "most ambitious to date".

Having bought a £120m riverside building, the businessman says he plans to flatten it in the future and asks Grimes and Ambrose to come up with conceptual ideas for a new building.

The pair have four days to work on the project - which has to make money - before presenting plans to 100 hard-nosed property experts.

They will be helped by eight contestants from the series who fell by the wayside earlier on in the competition.

Hopkins told Closer magazine: "I really think it's a shame that both Tre and I went. People have come up and told me that now we've gone the final will be really boring. It's like the show is already over."

Millions will tune in tonight to see who wins a £100,000 job with Sir Alan Sugar in the final of The Apprentice.

In a case of steel versus silk, hard-as-nails Kristina Grimes will take on blue skies thinker' Simon Ambrose, a Cambridge graduate.

Here, the Daily Mail profiles the finalists.

Simon Ambrose

SIMON AMBROSE: The posh public schoolboy

NAME: Simon Ambrose

AGE: : 27

EDUCATIONAL PEDIGREE: : Top public school Westminster and a double first in economics from Cambridge.

BOARDROOM TACTICS: : Thinks of himself as quiet and thoughtful. In reality can come across as the office clown.

DAVID BRENT MOMENT: : The leg of a trampoline took on an unfortunately phallic appearance when he tried to sell it on live TV in a challenge to become a shopping channel presenter, a moment described by the BBC's Adrian Chiles as the greatest piece of TV ever'.

MOST LIKELY TO SAY: : Would you like me to recite the entire company history of Amstrad for you, Sir Alan?'

LEAST LIKELY TO SAY: : Well Alan Sugar is a bit over-rated really, isn't he?'

CLAIM TO FAME: : Having his photo taken with P Diddy in Ibiza. Claims they are mates'.

ALPHA QUALITIES: : Questionable. The odd quivering lip in the boardroom and accusations he played poodle to semifinalist Tre Azam lose him valuable points.

SOMETHING HE WOULD RATHER WE DIDN'T KNOW: : Claims, on hisFriends Reunited profile, to be 10 per cent gay . . .but no more'.

ORDER OF THE BROWN NOSE: : Has a photo of Sir Alan on his old Amstrad PC that he rewired himself, and claims Sugar was his boyhood idol.

SIR ALAN'S SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS: : 2 out of 10. Made redundant by an investment bank, parents split when he was three and claims he was bullied at school. But this did happen to be league table-topping Westminster School. His father is a multi-millionaire businessman while his grandfather was a selfmade millionaire who made his fortune in retail jewellery.

EXTRACURRICULAR: : Has a long-term girlfriend he refuses to talk about.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: : Even when you are on the phone it is important to smile, because it affects the timbre of your voice.'

AND ANOTHER THING: : Posed as a Manchester United agent to bag a table for ten at a top restaurant, and has boasted that his looks helped him get everywhere'.

Kristina Grimes

KRISTINA GRIMES: The single-minded mother

NAME: : Kristina Grimes

AGE: : 36

EDUCATIONAL PEDIGREE: : BSc honours in maths.

BOARDROOM TACTICS: : Hardnosed, no-holds barred, fights fire with even more fire.

DAVID BRENT MOMENT: : Failed to work a steam cleaner when taking part in the challenge to be a presenter on live shopping TV and blurted out: Jesus Christ!'

MOST LIKELY TO SAY: : I am a ruthless single mother.'

LEAST LIKELY TO SAY: : Katie Hopkins has been completely misunderstood.'

CLAIM TO FAME: : Exposed romantic canoodling of seductress Miss Hopkins and fellow contestant Paul Callaghan to Sir Alan in the boardroom to save her own skin.

ALPHA QUALITIES: : Undisputed – makes grown men quiver in her wake. Miss Hopkins called her a hard evil little wench with a forked tongue', but added she is too orange to be taken seriously'.

SOMETHING SHE WOULD RATHER WE DIDN'T KNOW: : Former neighbours inHarrogate, North Yorkshire, complained of her regular sex and drinking sessions.

ORDER OF THE BROWN NOSE: : To me, Sir Alan is an inspiration, where he started, what he has achieved and his directness.'

SIR ALAN'S SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS: : 8 out of 10. While her father was an executive at Coca Cola, she ended up having to struggle to the top after she became pregnant at 17 and was sent to convent school where she stayed until she gave birth. Brought up the child on her own as she put herself through university.

EXTRACURRICULAR: : Her estranged husband claimed she cheated on him with other men.

IN HER OWN WORDS: : There's only me, there's only me. I am going to be in the final and that is it.'

AND ANOTHER THING: : Her birthday is on Halloween – which led her embittered exhusband to call her a witch'.

I think Katie convinced herself that the key to winning was to be totally unscrupulous. Fortunately scruples do count for something, even with a knighted British industrialist. If that were no longer true, the world wouldn't be a fit place to live.

This just about says it all and after watching the final it is clear that Sir Alan wanted a public school educated prat like Simon to head up his "property" intentions rather than an honest hard working business person like Kristina, job done! Don't ask about Katie and her time at Grenville College in Bideford, you've all seen what she's like on TV!
