Moss doubles her money after 'Cocaine Kate' scandal

Updated 14:37pm on 14 Jun 2007

Kate Moss's earnings soared after the cocaine sniffing scandal that threatened to destroy her career, new figures reveal.

Latest accounts for her private company, Skate Enterprises, show its assets doubled.

The pictures of the supermodel allegedly using the drug initially appeared to make her untouchable.

They led to her being dubbed "Cocaine Kate" and cost her lucrative-deals with Chanel, Burberry and most embarrassingly, H&M, which had to reshoot a campaign for its Stella McCartney range.

A police investigation was eventually dropped after officers were unable to prove which drug Moss, 31, had been using.

However, after a public apology and admission that she had "let people down", Moss bounced back stronger than ever.

The latest accounts show Skate Enterprises ended the year to February 2006 with £3.9 million in the bank compared with £2 million in 2005.

The accounts are highly significant because the financial year they cover ended five months after the publication of the photographs. They suggest that even during the depths of her brief period of disgrace Moss was prospering.

After the scandal died down Kate renewed her friendship with designer Stella McCartney and was the face of her main collection

The year-end coincided with her symbolic rehabilitation when she sat at the front row of the Burberry show in Milan between photographer Mario Testino and chief executive Rose Marie Bravo.

Since then she has picked up or renewed a string of major contracts from brands and advertisers such as Virgin Mobile, Rimmel, Longchamp, Calvin Klein, Versace, and Roberto Cavalli.

She also made up with her old friend Stella McCartney and was the face of a campaign for the designer's main collection.

The figures do not include the £3 million deal Moss signed last September to design a range for Topshop.

In total her wealth is estimated at £45 million. She owns 100 per cent of Skate Enterprises.
