High-heeled Posh joins the soccer mums in LA

Updated 15:40pm on 18 Jul 2007

Victoria Beckham took time out from her mission to launch herself on the American consciousness, to play soccer mum to her three football mad sons.

The Spice Girl accompanied her sons to a training session at top youth football club, Real So Cal Soccer Club, and Brooklyn, 8, is already showing signs of father David Beckham's footballing talent.

Victoria spurned the 'soccer mom' uniform of tracksuit pants and baseball cap, but dressed down for the occasion in a simple grey t-shirt and jeans, and her trademark skyscraper heels as she stood pitchside cheering on her son, and chatting to club officials.

As father David begun training sessions with new club LA Galaxy, Brooklyn and Romeo begun some training of their own at the club in LA's Woodland Hills, dressed in fresh new kit, with Brooklyn wearing a David Beckham Academy training top.

However Beckham's scheduled first appearance for the Galaxy against Chelsea on Saturday is in doubt because of a swollen left ankle. The England midfielder, signed by the Galaxy from Real Madrid on a five-year deal worth £128million, watched from the sidelines with his ankle in an ice-pack as his new team were thumped 3-0 by Mexican club Tigres UANL in a friendly.

Victoria looked after youngest son Cruz, who sat contentedly and shared cuddles with his mother, watching as his brothers joined in the training session at the elite club.

According to the club's website, Real So Cal has more than 750 competitive young players, including girl teams as well as 1,500 players in its "recreational league."

The club offers "a comprehensive and progressive training program for the serious soccer athlete" and its "aim is to prepare players for the highest levels within the sport ODP, college, National Team, and professional soccer."

If Victoria was disappointed about the critical mauling her documentary Victoria Beckham: Coming to America received, it didn't show.

The much-hyped TV show was beaten in the ratings by a repeat of BBC crime drama Waking The Dead with only 3.5 million viewers tuned in to ITV1's one-hour special following Posh Spice's move to Los Angeles.

It did manage to get 300,000 more viewers than Big Brother on Channel 4. The show - which bizarrely featured an actress playing the part of Beckham's personal assistant - originally aired on US channel NBC.

The New York Post described it as "an orgy of self-indulgence" and awarded the programme no stars, while the New York Times said the show "tests the American market's seemingly insatiable demand for rich, idiotic It girls".

Tender moments: Cruz shares his snacks with mum Victoria

Posh's attempt to sell 'Brand Beckham' in the US begun with a sexually charged photoshoot for W magazine and detailed account of their relationship, and in the fly-on-the-wall documentary, screened last night on ITV, she allowed cameras capture intimate moments with her husband David.

But maybe she has overlooked focusing on the one area which is certain to endear her to an American public raised on American football, mom and apple pie - and that is, her role as a loving mother.

I wish I looked as good as she does after having three kids. She looks amazing and I would love to see more of the mother side of her. Her boys obviously love & adore her.

Oh, come on! She's just showing off for the cameras. The attempt from Mrs Beckham to conquor America makes me want to puke. Who strikes a pose during a kiddies' football match???! I only hope that the Americans see through it straight away and kick her to the bottom of the celebrity ladder.
Please, no more of this woman now...

Of all the soccer moms I know, nobody is stupid enough to wear high heels to a game, let alone practice. She's just looking for every photo oppotunity imaginable.

She should show her maternal side more than she showed last night on the programme. The children obviously adore their mother and her them. Bring on motherhood.
