Britney's mystery medication
Updated 14:54pm on 7 Sep 2007Britney Spears is preparing to return to the stage as the opening act at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, but she may not be in the best of health.
The singer stepped out clutching a mysterious bottle of pills during a shopping trip in Beverly Hills.
Still the 25-year-old, who was also seen carrying not one but two identical Versace hand bags, looked to be in high spirits during her outing, smiling as stopped of for a quick solarium visit.
Spears is set to perform Gimme More - the first single from her upcoming album - at Sunday's event in Las Vegas.

Mystery: the singer was seen clutching a bottle of medication during her outing
MTV said in a statement: "After weeks of mind-blowing media speculation, MTV confirms today that Britney Spears will be opening the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards."
The performance is billed as her "long awaited comeback."
VMA executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic added: "I wanted to start the show in a very big and dramatic way, and she's the one to do that."
"She'll captivate everyone, and set the tone for rest of the night."

High spirits: Britney is scheduled to perform her new single Gimme More at the MTV VMA's this Sunday
He said: "What I've see of it is great. She'll be dancing, performing, dong her thing. That's exactly what we all want."
Illusionist Criss Angel, who briefly dated Cameron Diaz earlier this year, has played a hand in organising elements of the performance, which is said to involve a hall of mirrors.
Spears first performed at the VMAs in 2001, where she sang I'm A Slave 4 U with a 7-foot albino python around her neck.
Her ultra toned look appears to be a thing of the past however – earlier this week flashed her ample bottom one more time during a junk food binge following another night out.
Spears seems to have swapped her heavy partying lifestyle for a night of snacking as she stopped at an off-licence, and later fast-food chain Taco Bell for something to eat.

And unfortunately Britney's unabashed love of junk food looks as if it's taken its toll on the star's body, as she appeared puffy-faced and was pictured in a dress that failed miserably to cover her ample bottom.

Battle: Britney's return to form earlier this year appears to be on the slide as she embraces her love of junk food
Britney's new look is in stark contrast to the fitter, healthier look she showcased earlier this year as she embarked on her comeback following her split from ex-husband Federline.
Her daily dance workouts appear to have dwindled as she spends her nights out clubbing with friends.

Meanwhile Britney has been cleared of complaints to child welfare authorities after being investigated by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services following an unspecified complaint relating to sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
At the latest hearing in the custody battle between her and ex-husband, Kevin Federline, her lawyer, Laura Wasser, said: "It does not appear the county will pursue any action at this time."
Wasser said she does not know who complained, but added: "But I am trying to find out."

Audacity?! The poor girl looks like she hasn't got the faintest idea what is going on most of the time....I don't think there's anything deliberate about her behaviour these days. I wish someone would take hold of her and take her away from the public eye so she can be a "mess" without reporters following her every move.

Does everyone handle stress the same way? No. The girl is young and never had a normal life and now everyone expects her to be the perfect role model. Not a chance!

I second Amy's point. I also like to add that it's obvious to see that she's in the middle of a nervous breakdown and she's angry at a lot of people who pushed her to become something she is not comfortable with, i.e.her mum. Pushy parents be warned. She's worked hard thus far and she's now reclaiming the childhood she never had, not unlike Michael Jackson.

She's a complete train wreck. She is far too immature. One doesn't need to get out of a car with a short skirt and no knickers on with your legs wide. You also seem to forget she was carrying a glass in her hand when she "stumbled" and nearly dropped her baby. If you notice the pictures of her turning into that parking spot, you'll see her gaze wasn't anywhere NEAR the direction it should've been. THEN she had the audacity to get out of the car and smack the door into the silver Merc. She needs to take responsibility NOW and get her life on track.

I see your point Amy but why is it other celebs manage just fine. It is price they have to pay for their fame for goodness sake. She is on a fortune, we could all pull ourselves together with their lifestyle. She should just hideaway for a while if she is intent on making a scene everywhere she goes.

What a classy role model, maybe she can bump up her portfolio by getting her kids to appear in junk food ads?

Yes she will flash her knickers if a camera is stuck in that direction, yes she will hit a car if the photographers are hounding her, yes she will struggle to stand up straight with her child if the photographers are pushing her around trying to get that photo! Give this girl a break, I would be a complete and utter mess if I was hounded like she is! Leave the poor girl alone!
