Tom Cruise building '£5m bunker to protect against alien attack'

Updated 13:22pm on 28 Sep 2007

Hollywood star Tom Cruise is planning to build a bunker at his Colorado home to protect his family in the event of an intergalactic alien attack, according to new reports.

The Mission Impossible actor, who is a dedicated follower of Scientology, is reportedly fearful that deposed galactic ruler 'Xenu' is plotting an evil revenge attack on Earth.

Bunker down: Tom Cruise, on set of his latest movie with wife Katie and daughter Suri, is reportely fearful of an alien attack

According to American magazine Star, a source said: "Tom is planning to build a US$10 million bunker under his Telluride estate."

"It's a self-contained underground shelter with a high tech air purifying shelter."

The facility is said to have enough room for ten people - including wife Katie Holmes, 17-month-old daughter Suri and his adopted children Isabella, 14, and Connor, 12.

Keeping the faith: Tom Cruise, in Spain in 2004, is a dedicated follower of Scientology

A spokesperson for the actor has denied the reports, saying: "This is completely untrue. He is not building on his property at all."

The 45-year-old is currently filming World War II movie Rubicon (formerly known as Valkyrie) in Germany, where he is regularly joined on set by Katie and Suri.

Tom plays German hero Colonel Claus Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg in the wartime thriller surrounding a failed plot by high-ranking military officers to blow up Hitler and has come under attack for his decision to do so as well as his religious beliefs.

The controversial film depicts the ill-fated plan to blow up the dictator on July 20, 1944, which he survived, with the plotters subsequently paying with their lives.

When somebody is acting in a wierd is immediately ridiculed but maybe we should ask a question before we laugh: Does he know something that we don't? I am not saying that I support him. I rather do not care ... His business...but each time I hear a different opinion I am trying to figure out where it stems from...

His last few movies have bombed-out, so lunacy combined with
mega-bucks ideas seem to be his (or an advisor's) idea to keep him in the spotlight front line. I will just get on with my own alien protective latrine, so later.

Who cares? It's his money, let him waste it as he wishes.

Leave them alone. If they are building a bunker, I hope they invite me just to get away from all of you!

Yet another reason to continue not going to Tom Cruise movies. We have terrorists with nuclear bombs, a possible EMP attack, a possible bird flu pandemic, tornadoes, etc., and he builds a bunker to protect himself from space ships.

Jason,

This is supply and demand: Good actors are scarce and in high demand, farmers are plentiful and not in high demand.

Furthermore, stories like these are entertaining. That's why people pay attention to the 'Hollywood crowd'. People like seeing their antics. Is there anything exciting about farmers? That's why even non-actors like Paris Hilton can survive in the media, people love hearing and talking about them.

Such 'over the top' behaviour of 'big stars' such as Tom Cruise, distracts our attention from what is really going on in the world, and keeps us thinking about other things than our own miseries. So many of us humans are struggling day in and day out to just survive another day of work; to cover the rent, electricity and phone bills (plus transportation needs, which keep going up!), etc. We love to entertain ourselves with outlandish behaviour, making us look 'normal' and acceptable to our peers. Part of us always wonders what it would be like to have so much money, and how different our lives would be. Money represents freedom and power to us, and keeps us in the fantasy world. It helps us endure.

Tom is obviously very keen on the physical life on earth and the material that surrounds him. He is definitely not aware of the fact that what should matter the end of the day, should there ever be any invasion, is the fact that our soul, the energy inside us, is the only way for forgiveness and our way back home. When we physically die, we will be sent back to our origin, to our creators in an energy form. The life on earth should never have been about money or all the material surroundings we have to make us feel secure. There is no such thing as security in our life. We are very insignificant as human beings. The only valuable thing we must cherish is our souls, as we are all good souls. Some just are lost, some very lost. At 27 I have been given the opportunity to discover the meaning of life. This meaning feels right for me personally. I dont ever wish to suggest that this is the only truth.
Tom is just one of those who wish to rely on religion to get comfort and security. It is sad but free will was one of the biggest manufacturing faults that was given to a human being when we were created. This is the consequence of our free mind. The order for the future is Matter, Mind and Spirit. In decending order. And I do believe there is life outside anybody who is not in denial.

Tom Cruise is an example of what happens to people that are placed in such high regards for the simple reason that they are part of the hollywood crowd.

Why do we elevate such people to such heights, but consider the average farmer that feeds 200,000 people to be "blue-collar"?

One would think that if this Xenu guy can attack earth and is from outer space he could certainly just blow earth up totally. What good is a shelter.
For me, a good case of beer while I wait for the almighty Xenu is best.

Terry, be careful. If you say "wibble, wibble" three times, Xenu will come down and eat your loafers.

I would like to suggest that Mr Cruise bunks down in his bunker right now, with his family and his servants. It will be no loss to the film industry at all.
