Beckhams head back to LA after ill father insists he's on the mend

Updated 08:08am on 1 Oct 2007

David Beckham has flown home to Los Angeles last night after his stricken father insisted he was okay.

The former England skipper, 32, jetted into Britain with wife Victoria days earlier after hearing Ted had suffered a near-fatal heart attack.

But yesterday recovering Mr Beckham, 59, sent the globe-trotting pair packing again after reportedly telling them: "I'll be okay."

He apparently even waved them off from the car park.

A source at the London Chest Hospital in Bethnal Green, East London, told The Sun: "Ted has made a dramatic improvement.

"David wanted to stay but Ted assured him it would be okay."

LA Galaxy star David and singer Victoria, 33, looked worn out as they arrived at Heathrow airport airport.

Victoria left a promotional tour of Japan early to visit her ailing father-in-law last Friday.

Both David and Victoria Beckham are understood to have been with Ted when he uttered his first words at the London Chest Hospital following the attack.

He reportedly "died" in the back of the ambulance on the way to the hospital, with paramedics battling for three hours to save him.

David - who signed to the US side LA Galaxy for £128 million earlier this year - had told officials that he intended to stay with his father "for as long as it takes".

Another source told The Sun: "David was very sweet and brought Ted some home-made fruit punch and a salad.

"Posh even took off her sunglasses when she reached the ward."

The couple's three children, Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz are being cared for by David's mother Sandra in LA.
